If you’ve rented a home in recent years, you may have noticed more and more fees being added on by landlords and property managers, from pet rent to air filter delivery charges. Many tenants are understandably frustrated by these extra costs.
Well, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has taken notice. Recently, Dallas-based Invitation Homes agreed to a $48 million settlement after being accused of deceptive practices, including surprise fees and unfairly withholding security deposits. This settlement means greater transparency and potential refunds for affected renters.
